There is no doubt whatsoever that Sarah Sjöström is one of Sweden’s greatest athletes of all time. Not many can match her incredible track record, where she has, among other things, taken home several Olympic and European Championship golds.
Absolutely superior in the final
The European Championship is currently underway in Italy. Before the championship, Sarah Sjöström chose to forgo several competitions and only compete in the shorter distance 50 meters, and thus only swims two races. The star said it was a tiring season and wanted to take the opportunity to thoroughly enjoy the championship.
Last Saturday she swam the first final of what will probably be two. And Sarah Sjöström was completely superior in the 50 meter butterfly. The Swede finished in an impressive time of 24.96 seconds – far ahead of the opponents.
– It feels good. I’ve been working hard so it feels good that it’s paying off. I get all the details I need when it comes to it, she tells SVT Sport after the competition.
“It was awesome”
It was in the same arena that Sarah Sjöström won her first WC gold in her career. In the stands he sat her parents and witnessed as she won in superior style another medal of the very noblest denomination.
– It felt absolutely fantastic and awesome to stand on the podium. I don’t think they’ve ever played the national anthem for so long. I saw mum and dad so it was awesome, says the 28-year-old.
Later this week, Sarah Sjöström will swim her next race during the EC in Italy.
