It was stated that the life of the female walrus Freya, who climbed on the sea boats in the Oslo Fjord in Norway, sunbathing and sometimes causing them to sink, became very popular in the region.

The Norwegian Ministry of Fisheries said that Freya’s anesthetization was based on “an overall assessment of the continuing threat to human safety”. Therefore, it was concluded that there is a high probability of harming humans and the health of the animal is not protected.”

Noting that many options were being considered, including the removal of Freya from the Oslo Fjord, the Ministry stated that these alternatives were rejected due to concerns about the health of the walrus. It was reported that Freya was humanely put to sleep and her body will be further examined by veterinarians.
