Those seeking treatment in the emergency department at the Brantford hospital face long wait times.
“Our Emergency Department is under extreme pressure,” the Brant Community Healthcare System posted online Friday.
BCHS cites staffing shortages and an increase in need for care.
“At times, we do not have enough staff to service all areas of the Emergency Department. This is resulting in longer than usual wait times,” said BCHS.
“Everyone is working tirelessly to ensure patients receive the care they need. Please be kind.”
BCHS reminds community members that visiting the urgent care center at the Willet in Paris, consulting your family doctor if your issue can wait 24 hours or longer, or contacting Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000 are options to consider if you are not experiencing a medical emergency.
“We recognize the enormous strain on the entire healthcare system right now and are doing everything we can to support both our staff and our community as we navigate this complicated issue,” BCHS president and CEO Dr. David McNeil said in a recent media release.
