Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson (S) believes that more suspects should be detained pending trial.
Now the government has decided on a legal council referral that will make it easier to detain suspects for serious assault, robbery or serious extortion, according to TT. Andersson believes that this can protect the victims of crime at the same time that the suspect cannot commit more crimes.
The bill may enter into force on July 1, 2023. Currently, suspects can be directly detained for crimes where the minimum sentence is two years in prison. This includes, among other things, weapons offences.
