In the PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man, which comes out with the remastered version, we take a look at the story and general dynamics of the game.
Spider-Man PC review: Spider-Man, one of the most popular superheroes, finally appeared with the PC version after the Playstation adventure. Spidey, who first appeared in the Amazing Fantasy series in 1962 and has since become one of the iconic characters of the entertainment world, this time throws his networks for PC players.
Marvel’s Spider-Man PC review
This adventure of Spider-Man, written by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, was released for PS4 in 2018 and then came to PS5 as remastered. Here, the PC version of the game has been transferred from this remastered version. Of course, he did not neglect to put the advantages of the PC in his bag during this journey. Before going into these details, of course, let’s briefly recall the general lines of the game.
One of the biggest reasons why the Spider-Man character is so loved is that people can empathize with him very quickly. In other words, aside from the superhero life, we have also witnessed the normal difficulties that the character always faces in Spider-Man stories. Here, rather than just presenting action games, Insomniac Games came up with a plate with plenty of action, but also decorated with character stories, difficulties experienced by Peter Parker and other details. It is possible to say that one of the most popular points of the game lies in this presentation.
Throughout the game, movies, comics and many subjects related to Spider-Man were touched on so well and tastefully that these little flavors made the dish much more delicious. A newspaper clipping you find in the playground, a graffiti you see on the wall, and Peter Parker’s slurs, the long-missed Spider-Man atmosphere and presentation have been thought through to the smallest detail.
Of course, Spider-Man is unthinkable without New York, or rather Manhattan Island. Although it goes to different regions in the movie series, our main place in this adventure is clear. Insomniac has managed to create a world as lively as possible for our floating character. As you throw webs in the sky, you feel that there is a truly living world below. Of course, the civilian population lacks artificial intelligence, their aim is to support that city atmosphere. But they still do not remain unresponsive to you.
There are tons of things to do in the game’s mini-mission system. We sync radio stations to unlock the map, find the backpacks we left earlier, thwart petty crimes, take down the Kingpin’s gangs, photograph key areas, and pursue many mini-missions, such as helping Harry with his research. Honestly, trying to do it all can get boring after a while. However, when you do the extras on your way towards the mission, you both gain experience points and gradually decrease these missions.
Again, great power, great responsibility?
Fortunately, Marvel’s Spider-Man did not wrap everything up as a story. It can be said that we have already memorized dozens of different versions of this story. Therefore, as a story, we go eight years after Peter Parker became Spider-Man. The game even assumes that we already know many of the characters. Shocker, Kingpin, Doc Oct, and Black Cat, who plays a more prominent role in the DLCs, are all featured in Peter’s life before our story.
By the way, yes, three story content released for the game are included in the PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. These stories are already opened after a certain point in the game and they are included in the main story. Of course, you can finish the main event and then add extras, this is completely left to the player’s choice.
There are two factors that stand out in terms of the story of the game. Some special cutscenes that elevate the action even more and drama elements that definitely don’t drown it out. This balance is very well preserved in Spider-Man. So even though you already know the story in a rough draft, you are eagerly waiting for what will happen, and more importantly, how it will be presented. This shows that the game offers not only action, but also a very good story.
Although Spider-Man has a lot of dynamics, it is an easy game in terms of control. Net throwing, equipment selection, melee dynamics are all designed to flow like butter. In other words, you do not get lost between the keys and you can easily do all the combos in close combat. Of course, if you plan to play the game with a keyboard, I personally recommend using a controller. By the way, the PC version of the game also has DualSense support. In addition, as in the PS5 version, small features that add color to the game, such as the sound coming from the controller when Spider-Man throws a web, were not overlooked.
Of course, the same goes for privacy as well as action. These two processes are well fed into the game and the choice is left to the players. Of course, due to the story, the game may oblige you at some moments, but there is a great deal of freedom in general. Stealth is enjoyable, you use all the abilities of the character when you switch to close combat moments. You beat the enemies on the ground, in the air, use your special equipment and encounter a cinematic combat system with finishing hits.
Speaking of the combat system, let’s not forget the costumes. There are tons of costumes that you can unlock in the game. You can throw a web in the streets of Manhattan with the very different costumes we see from movies to comics.
It is also necessary to take into account the different costumes and the powers that come with these costumes. For example, when you open the Iron Spider costume, you get 4 metallic arms, just like in the Civil War comics or the Infinity War movie. Each costume has a different feature similar to this one, and you are allowed to use these features in any costume you want.
The costume page also includes the perk system. You assign three different attributes to your costume. Here, there are usually perks such as stamina, faster combos, or the enemy notices you later. As I mentioned before, you gain experience points as you perform tasks in the game and you use these points in the skill tree, which is divided into three sections. Each new ability unlocked allows you to be more effective in navigating the city, fighting or networking. As you unlock, you start to realize how different the combat system actually is.
We also control other characters at some points in the game due to the story. Frankly, I did not like this operation in the console version. It is very bland compared to the game in general and you start to get bored of encountering the same things all the time. Normally, the artificial intelligence that wanders around the city or Spidey beats it up is not very easy in the action moments. But these episodes give the impression as if they were put in our eyes to show how bad artificial intelligence is. Apart from that, although similar puzzles we encounter may seem interesting at first, they become one of the ordinary points of the game. I can say that I found these parts a bit unnecessary for this beautiful game.
Let’s get to the graphics of the game. The game has minor bugs. I also encountered an error that required restarting a few times, but overall this game looks very good. The action structure, character designs and most importantly the city atmosphere are quite successful. You can feel how carefully the world and graphics of the game are prepared in every street you turn.
Spider-Man looked so good even in the PS4 version. With the PS5 version, this business has been taken a step further and we can say that the console restrictions have disappeared with the PC version. Widescreen support and, more importantly, the FPS state, which has a limited limit, allows you to play the game much more fluently. Along with RTX support, a great contribution has been made to the atmosphere of the game. The lights that catch your eye while you are floating among the skyscrapers or the reflections falling on glass and objects have taken the successful atmosphere one click further.
It is possible to play with many values in the graphic settings of the game. With the DLSS and FSR tuning, the performance increase is noticeably working. Shadows and lighting are also elaborated in the PC version. Remember, this is not a direct port game, on the contrary, it is a production that fully uses PC technologies. Also, don’t worry if your system isn’t very powerful. Because Spider-Man looks pretty good even at the lowest graphics settings. It manages to maintain its smooth gameplay and that city atmosphere. So if you’re not obsessed with RTX or graphics, you can easily accompany Spider-Man on this adventure, even on an average PC.
As a result, we can say that the PC version of Spider-Man has broken the chains of an already successful game. The game, which was released in 2018, still looks like a stone despite all this time and continues to be up-to-date with nice touches. If you like superhero-themed games, I can say that an adventure awaits you that you should definitely experience. Before we forget, Spider-Man: Miles Morales game will also appear in the PC version this year.
