Bitter doubles loss to Heliovaara in the quarterfinals of the

Harri Heliövaara’s doubles day ended in the quarterfinals at the Montreal Masters tennis tournament.

Tennis couple Harri Heliövaara/Lloyd Glasspool lost to the tournament’s third-ranked pair, the pair with the most ATP doubles points this year, in the quarterfinals of the Montreal Masters 6-4, 3-6, 8-10 late Friday.

Heliövaara and Glasspool were close to new with their win in Hamburg in mid-July Wesley Koolhof Holland / Neal Skupski Britannia, but the grip fizzled out in the super tiebreak, where a 7–3 lead turned bitterly into an 8–10 loss.

The supertiebreak started perfectly from Harri Heliövaara and Lloyd Glasspool and they led it 5–1, 6–2 and 7–4. Then the duo failed in their two consecutive servings, and the opponent turned on the charm gear, taking a 9–7 lead and eventually a decisive 10–8 victory.

– It was all about the little things. Now it’s really, really sad. In my opinion, it was not a particularly good match from us. We won the opening set and even led the match tie break, so basically the match was ours. You shouldn’t lose these.

– It’s tough, tough. I don’t know if there were a few wrong choices in passes. The opponents had clearly also read our passes in advance, they knew where we aimed our passes. That’s probably what it came down to, a disappointed Heliövaara told Tennisliito.

Heliövaara/Glasspool will play in the Cincinnati Masters tournament next week. There is also Emil Ruusuvuori.
