Independent singer-songwriter Kaitlyn Frances is getting closer to winning a spot on stage to open for pop superstars like Shawn Mendes, Coldplay, Doja Cat and Black Eyed Peas.
The 24-year-old Chatham native, now living in Windsor, is currently holding down first place in the pop category of the Opening Act competition that would earn her a chance to perform at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
Frances said the actual vote tally isn’t provided.
“All I know is I’m in first place, and I’ve just held that spot throughout the whole competition so far,” she said.
“It’s crazy. I didn’t expect it.”
Frances said she still needs people to vote, but noted she’s now confident she’ll make it into the top five since she’s held top spot in pop from the beginning.
“It’s awesome that I’ve had this continued support because it is tedious having to remember to vote every single day,” she said. “I’m very grateful for the people that have been doing it.”
Frances said the next round of voting began Aug. 11 for the group finals in order to advance to the quarter-finals.
Frances said she posts the link to vote for her – www.theopenact.com/2022/kaitlyn-frances – every day on her Instagram @kaitlynfrancess and Facebook page www.facebook.com/kaitlynfrancess.
She has also been enjoying success with her song, Close to Me, which is getting regular radio play on 16 stations across Canada.
She also created quite a buzz when she announced on TikTok that her single, Electric, was on Spotify and Apple Music.
