According to an article in SVD, a mother has had to pay thousands of kroner after her child used the popular app Tik Tok, despite the fact that both payment cards and purchases in the app would be blocked.

It is becoming increasingly common for children to give gifts to influencers on Tik tok. Gifts are given in the form of so-called stickers and these cost money. The money is deducted from the payment account that is often saved in the phone or comes as an addition to the invoice for your mobile subscription at the end of the month.

—It’s a legal gray area because you’re not allowed to market products to children, but it’s not Tik Tok that does it, it’s influencers that market themselves to children, explains digital expert Johan Öbrink.

Several apps and platforms use features where children in particular may feel prompted to pay in different ways. Therefore, it is important to really talk to the children, in addition to blocking payment functions in the apps. As a parent, you have to pay extra attention when the children use the services and talk more with the children about finances, says Öbrink.
