Iraqi actress and presenter Enas Taleb, Economist magazine’s “Why Are Women Fatter Than Men in the Arab World?” She sued for using a photo of her overweight in her article titled She.
British-based weekly news, international relations and economics magazine, Economist, published “Why Are Women Fatter Than Men in the Arab World?” Iraqi actress and presenter was sued by Taleb for using a photograph of 42-year-old Enas Taleb, taken at the Babylon International Festival in Iraq 9 months ago, in her article titled.
Stating that the photo in which he was overweight was used out of context, without his permission, Taleb stated that the use of the photo in question violated his freedom and privacy. Taleb stated that he initiated legal action against the Economist magazine in England and claimed that the photo in question was a photoshop.
Taleb called the article “insulting to Arab women in general and Iraqi women in particular”, asking why the Economist was “interested in fat women in the Arab world and not in Europe or the United States.”
In the Economist article, it was argued that poverty and social restrictions that keep women at home in Iraq are among the reasons why Arab women are more overweight than men, while Iraqi men often point to Enas Taleb as the ideal body for women.
THE ARTICLE HAS GREAT REACTION IN SOCIAL MEDIA
The article published by The Economist became the target of criticism on social media. Social media users described the article in question as “racist” and “sexist” and stated that it “embarrasses” Arab women.
Taleb is among the most well-known actresses in Iraq and has 9 million followers on Instagram. (UAV)
