Wrestler Arvi Savolainen the main goal of the season, September’s World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, fell into the scrap heap due to an unfortunate wrestling practice.
Savolainen badly injured his wrist at the new moon at a training camp in Poland.
– In match training, I tried to knock down a guy. It felt like my own wrist betrayed the strength of the pull when I was holding the other hand with it, Savolainen said.
– When I came to Finland, the wrist was photographed and it was found that one ligament is torn. It needs to be fixed and fixed.

The injury happened at an unfortunate time, as the Finnish wrestling star will inevitably miss the World Wrestling Championships in September.
– The whole summer has been spent camping and competing with the autumn World Championships in mind. Then in the last meters it hurts so much that you have to miss them. It’s boring.
Savolainen’s next goal is to get a wrist as good as possible and such that he can wrestle with it as hard as possible in the future. The first competitions of next year’s spring and summer are already on my mind.
– Then in the fall are the World Championships, from which the first places for the Paris Olympics are already awarded. We will turn our attention to them when the current competitions are missed.
Success and health problems
The 23-year-old Savolainen is one of the brightest names in Greco-Roman wrestling in Finland at the moment. This year, Savolainen won the first adult competition medal of his career, when he wrestled European Championship silver in Budapest in April. At the Tokyo Olympics, the wrestler advanced to the bronze medal match. However, the Olympic medal did not come yet.
At the championship level, Savolainen has the championships in the 97 kg category from 2019 and 2021 and in the 130 kg category from 2020.
In the under-23 age group, the wrestler from Ahkera in Lahti celebrated both World Championship and European Championship gold.
In addition to success, health problems have also become familiar to Savolainen.
Last fall, he had to be taken to the hospital due to rhythm disturbances from training, and he had a heart operation before the turn of the year.
– It’s nice when you don’t miss training anymore because of a trip to the hospital. Now there is one stressor out of mind. There are no more arrhythmias, Savolainen said in April.
