Heavy explosions have been heard from a Russian military base in Crimea. Russia says the detonations took place in an ammunition depot and that the cause is being investigated. One person is reported to have died and according to the state-run Russian news agency Tass, five have been injured, including a child.
An adviser to the Russian-appointed governor confirms that explosions have taken place near the Saki base, Interfax reports.
The explosions are said not to have been preceded by any shelling and the fire should now be out.
