On Thursday, the EC in swimming starts In Italy.
The star Sarah Sjöström is of course there – but during this championship will compete in smaller competitions than usual.
– It’s tough, she says.
There is absolutely no doubt that Sarah Sjöström is Sweden’s most successful swimmer of all time. No one can match the Swede’s track record, where she has won several Olympic and World Cup golds.
Nobs several distances
Her great success means that she is always a big favorite to end up on the podium when it comes time for competition. That will of course also be the case during the European Championship in Rome, which starts on Thursday this week.
Now, however, Sarah Sjöström says that she will forgo several competitions during the championship. She only competes in the 50 meter events, and swims only two races.
– It is for several reasons. It is very unusual that there are two long-track championships as close as this year, and besides, I got covid right after the WC, she tells Dagens Nyheter.
“Want to enjoy”
The star, however, believes that the corona has nothing to do with her decision. It is for other reasons that she chooses to reduce the number of competitions this championship.
– Physically, covid has not affected. I feel really strong. But this time I wanted to go to Rome and enjoy it, says Sarah Sjöström and continues:
– I know how tough it is to reload for a lot of different disciplines during a championship. It takes a lot of energy. This time, two 50-meter distances therefore feel adequate.
