The messaging application has just increased the maximum duration beyond which it is possible to delete a message from a conversation. You now have a little over two days.
That’s it. WhatsApp has officially extended the length of time you can delete messages from a conversation. The feature, spotted in early July in a beta version of the app, is now available to all users. The instant messaging application has just made the news official through a message posted on its Twitter account.
? Rethinking your message? Now you’ll have a little over 2 days to delete your messages from your chats after you hit send.

Two days to delete your messages
You now have just over 48 hours to delete a message from a WhatsApp conversation. A delay that should be long enough if you change your mind and want to use the “Remove for everyone” function which allows you to delete one of your missives before it is read by your interlocutors. Until now, WhatsApp only allowed deleting a sent message within a maximum of one hour.
If you’ve never done it before, deleting a message in a conversation is a piece of cake. All you have to do is keep your finger pressed on the message to be deleted, then select the option Delete for everyone.
Launched in 2017, the message deletion feature has been reviewed and corrected several times, as WhatsApp has repeatedly increased the time after which it was possible to erase your little words. Originally, the application allowed only seven short minutes to erase a message sent by mistake. A few months later, in 2018, WhatsApp dropped some ballast and extended this duration to 1 hour, 8 minutes and 16 seconds. With the deployment of this new update, WhatsApp now gives you 2 days and 12 hours to withdraw a message in an individual conversation or a group chat.
In recent months, WhatsApp has multiplied tests and updates introducing new features. Last May, instant messaging launched, for example, reactions in the form of emojis and improved file sharing by increasing the size limit from 100 MB to 2 GB.
More recently, it was testing a feature (not yet deployed) allowing you to edit the messages sent a posteriori as well as an option allowing you to hide your online status from everyone or for certain people only.
