The Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake has died, aged 84, one of his collaborators has announced.

He reportedly died of cancer on August 5.

Issey Miyake’s international career spanned more than 50 years. He was one of several young Japanese designers who achieved success in Paris from the mid-1970s. He became known primarily for the clothing brand that bears his name.

According to his own wish, he is said to have already been buried with only relatives present. According to an employee, there are no plans for a larger ceremony.

Issey Miyake was born in Hiroshima in 1938.
