Vitens says it does everything it can to properly distribute drinking water in the province. “In the Netherlands we are very good at draining water,” explains Hannema. “But to ensure that we also have enough water in times of drought, we must retain the rainwater and not drain it into the sea. And that requires new infrastructure, such as dikes, dams and lakes.”
