The legendary “World of Warcraft” player Rextroy must look for a new task. Because his miracle toads have now been nerfed.
Actually, it was foreseeable and only a matter of time. But a few days ago it happened and Blizzard has withdrawn a large part of its content basis from a YouTuber. The Squeeze Toad can no longer be used for exploits and bugs. The developers have pulled the ripcord.
What was that toad? The Squeezed Toad is an item that Alliance players could purchase in the Warlords of Draenor expansion in Shadowmoon Valley after completing some quests.
The toad could be bought and thrown at a destination indefinitely. It then counted as an attackable opponent – but not anymore. The toad is now “friendly” and can no longer be harmed.
The peculiarity of the toad was that it had a very low level. This caused abilities that might only do 1,000 damage at level 60 to hit the toad for hundreds of thousands of damage. This, in turn, could then be used by Rextroy to create absurd scales with a variety of abilities.
There are abilities that affect all enemies in the area for a fraction of the damage suffered by the main target – regardless of the level of the enemies in the area. This made for insane multi-kills in PvP.
Why did Blizzard change that? While Blizzard hasn’t mentioned the change anywhere, it seems obvious that they’re just fed up with all the exploits and weird interactions that keep popping up. Far too often, the toads are the lynchpin of such exploits, so it just seems easier to limit the functionality of the toads rather than having to tweak every other ability every time.
Is Rextroy still making videos? Yes, definitely – since then he has also found a few new methods to achieve absurd damage numbers and even kill current raid bosses almost single-handedly. However, he now has to be much more creative for this, because one of his most reliable resources to date, the aforementioned toads, no longer work.
But we can probably assume that Rextroy will delight us a few more times with particularly absurd methods to stomp enemy players or raid bosses into the ground. When the time comes again, you will of course read about it on MeinMMO.
What do you think of this “surrender” by Blizzard? Sad? Or the only right decision?
Elsewhere, Blizzard has also capitulated – and completely discontinued a “WoW Mobile”.
