Federation of Motor Vehicle Dealers (MASFED) Chairman, increasing day by day used cars He made suggestions about prices.
Motor Vehicle Dealers Federation (MASFED) Chairman Aydın Erkoç evaluated the latest developments in the second-hand vehicle market. Stating that the production disruptions and logistics problems due to the chip crisis, as well as the expectation of the SCT reduction, which has been on the agenda recently, affected the market negatively, Erkoç noted that the uncertainty created an unsafe environment in the sector, and that sales brought the sales to a standstill. Erkoç said that according to the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in the January-June period of 2022, there was an upward change of 35 percent in the market compared to the first 6 months of the previous year.‘The second hand market, which was 2 million 347 thousand 440 units in the first 6 months of 2021, was realized as 3 million 166 thousand 964 units in the same period of this year.
While 575 thousand 335 vehicles changed hands in June of 2021, this figure was 710 thousand 88 in the same month of 2022. The arrival of the summer months and the approach of the holiday made the sector have active days. However, at the moment, the market has come to a standstill, there are stagnant days in the sector.

Stocking is one of the factors
‘“The cost increases, the fluctuating course of the exchange rate and naturally the problems in the supply-demand balance adversely affected the sector and made it difficult for our citizens to own a car. The chip crisis and logistics problems due to the pandemic still continue. In addition to the lack of vehicle entry into the market, stocking is one of the factors that increase the prices…
In addition to these problems, the rumors of the SCT reduction that have been on the agenda recently also caused consumers to wait. In today’s conditions, we do not think that SCT reduction will be made or prices will decrease in the short term. For this reason, we recommend our citizens not to delay their needs and to buy their vehicles before the prices increase.
Import solution for used car prices
In the past years, the import of second-hand vehicles was allowed. Provided that all taxes are taken, this practice, which will be implemented again in a way that will not affect domestic production, will ensure that prices will remain stable or even come back, as there will be vehicle entry into the market. Import of second-hand vehicles, which will be implemented under certain conditions for up to 3 years, will relieve the market as it will eliminate the problem of vehicle supply.‘ he said.
