The development that worries Europe! Attack on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant: we must send a team, as in Chernobyl

The development that worries Europe Attack on the Zaporozhye Nuclear

While there is little time left for the 6-month period in the military intervention launched by Russia against Ukraine on February 24, new news continues to come from the region. It was stated that the nuclear power plant in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia was damaged as a result of an attack. Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stated that there was no damage to the reactors. “I urgently urge all parties to show maximum restraint around this important nuclear facility with six reactors.” said.

“DAMAGE IN OTHER PLACES OF THE POWER PLANT”

Underlining that the said attack poses a serious nuclear disaster threat both in Ukraine and its surroundings, IAEA Director General Grossi said, “The IAEA has been informed about this serious situation. According to Ukraine, there was no damage to the reactors and no radiological release. However, there is damage elsewhere in the power plant. Military action that jeopardizes the safety and security of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is absolutely unacceptable and should be avoided at all costs. Any military firepower directed at the facility could lead to potentially catastrophic situations, and that means playing with fire. “I urgently urge all parties to show maximum restraint around this important nuclear facility with six reactors,” he said.

“WE SHOULD SEND A TEAM LIKE IT WAS IN CHERNOBIL”

Noting that the IAEA should send a team to the region, Grossi said, “The IAEA team should go to Zaporozhye as it did to Chernobyl and Southern Ukraine earlier in the year. “We can bring together a safety and protection mission and provide needed assistance and impartial assessment.”
