Anton Strålman is without a contract.
Two months ago, the star opened up about returning to Sweden. Now the SHL club confirms talks with the defender.
It has been more than 15 years since Anton Strålman broke through in Sweden. The move quickly carried over to North America, where he accumulated over 900 NHL games in several different organizations.
Confirms conversation with Strålman
He has represented Toronto, the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay, among others. Last season he belonged to Arizona, which did not want to extend the contract with the 36-year-old back. Now he is looking for a new club, and has previously opened up about returning to Sweden.
Now HV71’s sports director, Kent Norberg, confirms that they have met Anton Strålman, and hopes that the Swede will play hockey in Jönköping when the season starts.
– We’re going in with one more back and there’s nothing to brag about which one we’re waiting for, he tells HockeyNews and continues:
– We have to wait and see what he (Strålman) decides. After that, we will make the next decision, says Norberg, who will not act until a clear message from Strålman.
“The ball is in his court”
Kent Norberg tells us that the Jönköpings club has not offered Anton Strålman a contract yet.
– No, we have met him, we have. We have not discussed any money, but it is more his own feeling and what comes from there, he says.
Now most depends on whether Anton Strålman gets a new contract from an NHL club.
– Ideally, he wants to play one more year over there, but there must also be something that makes him feel that he wants to go there, and he hasn’t gotten that yet. We shall see. We have a good dialogue. The whole ball is with him.
