Created in 1994 by Franz Koch and Dr. Klemenz Kundratitz, KOCH Media is on the verge of change. In a press release which does not really explain this change of identity, we learn that from now on, KOCH Media is called PLAION, in capital letters, just to mark its presence. Pronounced “Play-On”, PLAION sports an interactive button logo, much like YouTube does, but with neon green and some shading on it. There is also a ribbon in the shape of this logo, which has the meaning of connecting the firm with the players, but also all the entities that bring together the Embracer group, owner of KOCH Media since 2018. The opportunity for Klemens Kundratitz, co-founder and CEO of now PLAION to speak:
Over the past 28 years, we have built a strong business in which we have partnered with many key players in the industry. By joining the Embracer group in 2018, our growth has accelerated and we continue to diversify. In order to reflect the evolution of our company, in terms of content but also of geographical location as we extend throughout the world, we have chosen this new name so that it perfectly embodies who we are and the path we have taken. .
Embracer Group is also an ogre that continues to grow and the recent acquisition of Eidos Interactive proves that video games remain the core business of this Swedish entity which wishes to become a major European and international player. It must be said that the group now has both a development studio, publishing labels and a subsidiary dedicated to cinema (PLAION Pictures) and today employs no less than 2,300 people.
