Oliver Solberg drove out in the first corner of the first actual driving day of the Jyväskylä World Rally Championship.
On the opening day of the Jyväskylä World Rally Championship, we saw real drama right from the opening stretch in Laukaa, when the super promise Oliver Solberg shook out immediately in the first corner in an inexplicable way.
Solberg was very disappointed after the event. He screamed and beat his wheel. Even from the spectator photos obtained by , the Swedish-Norwegian rally driver was very disappointed.
A few hours later, Solberg calmly explained the situation.
– I missed the turn. The back of the car barked. I couldn’t save the situation. I hit a rock. I spun around and went on the roof, Solberg commented to Urheilu.
Solberg cannot continue the race on Saturday because he was so badly damaged in the crash.
A couple of years ago, the 20-year-old Solberg was talked about as the future ruler of the rally roads together Kalle Rovanperän with. 2003 World Champion by Petter Solberg however, the boy’s career development has not been rocket-like Harri Rovanperen in a boy.
Earlier this season, Solberg already drove out violently in Croatia. The season has been very broken. The best ranking of the season has come in Sweden. He was sixth in his home category. Since then, performances have been fluctuating.
– It has been a generally difficult year. There have been difficult races and a bit of bad luck in between. It’s not going smoothly. Of course, we know that driving a car is not easy. We have a lot of problems. We are going too hard for that, Solberg stated.
What does Solberg think about his future and the end of season competitions? How hard is the pressure to make a result in the end-of-season competitions?
Solberg turned the question from his own situation to the problems of Hyundai’s car this season.
– The speed has always been good. It’s a difficult thing because you’d like to make a profit, but it’s not easy to drive a car. Thierry (For advice) is really slow now. Ott (Thank you) pulls on the edge, Solberg states.
– It is difficult to find boundaries. Especially since I’m so young. Either drive slowly and get to the finish line, or drive hard. That’s risky again. We know the car has problems.
Despite Solberg’s words, the Estonian star Tänak had hit the top speed by the day’s first maintenance.
According to Solberg, Hyundai has not found anything magical compared to, for example, Toyota.
– Ott can’t continue like this the whole race, Solberg laughed just before the competitors were leaving for the second special test in Lauka.
There are many similarities in Oliver Solberg’s exit to his father Petter Solberg’s exit in Ouninpohja 2006. At that time, Petter Solberg exited in almost the same way in the opening corner. Of course, it was not the opening special stage of the day, nor the opening corner of the day.
– Unfortunately, these will happen. It’s part of the game, Mikko Hirvonen stated in ‘s studio about the similarities.
