Pointing out that citizens who go out during the day may be exposed to sunstroke due to the extreme heat, it was emphasized that one should not go out between the hottest hours of the day, between 10:00 and 16:00, unless it is necessary.
In the statement made by the Aydın Provincial Health Directorate on the subject, “Sunstroke occurs when the body temperature cannot be lowered due to the deterioration of the sweating mechanism that regulates the body temperature as a result of exposure to excessive heat. Body temperature can rise above 40-41 degrees in 10-15 minutes. Sun or heatstroke can cause permanent damage or death if not treated promptly. If treatment is started before loss of consciousness, the chance of recovery is quite high. The person’s fever is above 39.4 degrees, the skin is dry, red and hot, there is no sweating, there is nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, prominent eye sockets, deterioration of visual clarity, and loss of consciousness, which can go up to coma. In first aid, the person should be immediately taken to a cool and air-flowing place, his tight clothes should be loosened, he should be tried to be cooled with cold water or coolers such as a fan or air conditioner. If necessary, the airway should be opened and artificial respiration should be performed.
“SEE MORE IN THE ELDERLY”
In the continuation of the statement, which draws attention to the need to pay attention to heat exhaustion, “Heat exhaustion occurs with the loss of water and minerals due to exposure to extreme heat for a long time and not taking enough fluids. It is more common in the elderly, those with high blood pressure and those who work in the sun. It manifests itself with symptoms of excessive sweating, fatigue, weakness, fainting sensation, rapid heart rate, and fever. The skin is cold and moist, the pulse is fast and weak, the respiration is rapid and shallow, and the consciousness is clear. It is a milder form of sunstroke and is not life-threatening. If first aid is given appropriately and on time, the general situation improves quickly. The patient is taken to rest in a cool place, his clothes are loosened and his legs are raised by lying on his back. Try to cool it with a wet towel or cloth. Plenty of fluids are given. Especially savory ayran is drunk. If the general condition of the person does not improve in about 1 hour, it is necessary to apply to the health institution.
