Teen charged with driving twice posted speed limit

Brant OPP say a 17-year-old has been charged with stunt driving after being caught traveling more than twice the posted speed limit.

Police say an officer stopped the driver at about 11 p.m. on Tuesday on Colborne Street West in the County of Brant.

They say the vehicle was traveling more than 120 km-hr in a posted 60 km-hr zone.

The accused has lost their driver’s license for 30 days and had their vehicle impounded for 14 days.

Three city residents face impaired charges

Brantford police have charged several people with impaired driving over the past week.

On Sunday at about 8:15 am, officers saw a driver speeding westbound on Dalhousie Street near King Street.

The driver was stopped on the Lorne Bridge. Breath samples showed she was over the legal limit for alcohol, said police.

A 22-year-old Brantford woman was charged.

On Saturday, police saw a man driving slowly and erratically while exiting from the eastbound Highway 403 off-ramp and turning northbound onto Wayne Gretzky Parkway.

Police say samples of the driver’s breath were nearly three times the legal limit of alcohol.

A 52-year-old Brantford man is charged with operation while impaired, and drive motor vehicle – no licence.

On July 26 at about 8 am, police were called about a possible impaired driver near Colborne and Clarence streets.

Police say a concerned citizen spotted what appeared to be an unconscious woman behind the wheel of a vehicle stopped at a Colborne Street gas station.

Police say officers woke the driver and found a variety of prescription drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

A 36-year-old Brantford woman is charged with operation of a vehicle while impaired by a drug.

Woman accused of biting victim

Police say a woman was bitten while trying to help a store employee stop a would-be-thief at a retail store on Saturday.

Officers were called to the store at Market Street and Icomm Drive at about noon.

Police say the accused tried to leave the store without paying for her items. They say a shopper who came into the store was bitten when she tried to help an employee stop the accused from leaving. The accused then ran away.

A 24-year-old Brantford woman was found nearby by police, arrested and charged with assault.

Failed break and enter results in charge

A 27-year-old Brantford man, who police say was trying to kick in the door of a Gray Street home, has been charged with break and enter.

The incident happened on July 27 at about 9:30 pm Police say the accused damaged the door but wasn’t able to get into the home.
