But Richard Dunne sits on an incredible record – which probably no footballer wants.
Richard Dunne had a long career in English football. The defender from Ireland played almost 20 seasons in the Premier League and became a true icon in England’s top flight.
Legend status in Manchester
He represented Everton, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers in that order, but it was in Manchester that he would achieve legendary status. Dunne played almost 300 games for City, wearing the captain’s armband for several seasons.
Richard Dunne was indeed a player brought up in the British school. A rock-hard defender who gave everything in every duel. As a result, he holds the record as the player with the most red cards, eight, together with Patrick Vieira and Duncan Ferguson.
The Irish, on the other hand, are sitting on another record, and it’s certainly not something he can be particularly proud of.
Incredible record
In addition to Richard Dunne being sent off the most times in Premier League history, he also holds the record for the most number of own goals. He has somehow managed to get the ball into his own box a total of ten times – six times at Manchester City, three at Aston Villa and one at Queens Park Rangers.
The last was against Liverpool at home in the 2013/14 season. And when he slotted the ball into his own goal, he was the first in Premier League history to account for double-digit own goals.
