For the third consecutive year Brant County has received international recognition for the way it collects and uses municipal information to improve the lives of residents.
The county was recently presented with the ISO 37210 Platinum Certification from the World Council on City Data. The council is a global hub that brings together municipalities, international organizations and corporations with the goal of building better cities.
The ISO 37120 is the first ISO standard developed for municipalities. It includes 104 indicators across 19 themes and measures county services and quality of life using a common international standard.
“On behalf of the WCCD, it is a pleasure to congratulate the County of Brant on its third consecutive WCCD ISO 37120 Certification at the highest platinum level,” Dr. Patricia McCarney, WCCD president and CEO, said in a statement. “As an active and prominent participant in WCCD’s Canadian and global network, Brant County stands out as a leader in harnessing high-caliber data to create a more prosperous, resilient, sustainable, inclusive and smart future for its residents and visitors.”
The WCCD is looking forward to continuing to work with the county, she said.
Brant joined the organization of more than 100 cities as part of a three-year Data for Canadian Cities Pilot project. The effort was supported by the Federal Ministry of Infrastructure and Communities.
The organization found that Brant leads WCCD’s Canadian and global network with 250 kilometers of bicycle paths and lanes per 100,000 population. It also found that Brant has recorded an annual decrease in crimes against property every year since 2018.
As well, Brant continues to see annual increases in the percentage of people in full-time employment.
“We’re honored to be awarded the highest level of WCCD ISO 37120 certification for the third consecutive year,” Mayor David Bailey said in a statement. “This tool allows the county to assess and build a more livable, resilient and vibrant community.
“We are proud to join a distinct list of world cities who have achieved this certification which supports sound decision making.”
