He has signed a new deal with the Calgary Flames and is now tripling his compensation.

Oliver Kylington was drafted by the Flames in the summer of 2015 in the second round. He went straight to North America and played one NHL game in his first year, but had to devote himself mainly to games in the AHL.

New scoring record

He is perhaps not the most well-known Swede away in the NHL, but certainly a defender who has developed enormously in recent seasons. When 2018/19 ended, he was listed for 38 games in the world’s best hockey league, and this season he had his real breakthrough.

Oliver Kylington was a regular in a Calgary Flames who were dominant in the Western Conference. He was a strong contributor to their division victory, playing almost every game.

The 25-year-old really got the scoring production off the ground as well. His previous record in a season was 14 points, a number he more than doubled this year.

Triple his salary

The Swede accounted for 31 points, 9+22, during the regular season and another three through the playoffs. He has really proven himself in the NHL, and is now being rewarded with a new contract with the Calgary Flames – who really believe in their Swede.

Backen has signed a two-year contract worth around SEK 25 million per season, the Flames write on their website. That is three times more than what he earned before, when his salary was 7.6 million kroner.
