Dental managers in northern Sweden are sounding the alarm that the Swedish dental care system will soon collapse.
Long waiting times for patients, a lack of approx. 90 dentists and newly graduated dentists who choose a private employer over public dentistry are behind the problem.
– The consequences are that we get a deterioration in dental health among the population in Västerbotten. That adults who should receive care do not receive care, says Anna-Maria Stenlund Berggren, area manager at Folktandvården in Västerbotten.
When Ulrika Steigert sought emergency care at the public dental service, she was told that she had to wait 4 to 5 years for a dental appointment despite her EDS diagnosis, which increases the risk of major dental problems.
