The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation made a first-quarter payment totaling $423,773 to the Municipality of Chatham-Kent for being the municipal host to the Cascades Casino in Chatham.
The payment is based on a formula applied across all gambling sites in Ontario, using a graduated scale of gambling revenue at the site.
Since gambling first opened in Chatham-Kent in April 2001, with much of that time encompassing the now-closed Dresden slots, the municipality has received $14,877,704.
“OLG is proud to share proceeds of casino gaming with local communities, contributing to economic recovery, infrastructure development and job creation,” officials stated in a release Friday. “Payments to host communities are part of OLG’s commitment to Ontario – 100 per cent of OLG’s profits are reinvested in the province.”
