The Uppsala district of Gränby has recently been hit by a series of arson fires. A minor is now suspected of being behind the acts.
It was last Tuesday that the police received an alert about a fire in a garbage room in Gränby. Shortly afterwards there were more calls about additional fires and by the end of the day the emergency services had put out five fires, four in a garbage room and one in an apartment, in the same residential area.
– Two days later, another fire occurred in a garbage room, which was also suspected to have been started, says police spokesperson Magnus Jansson Klarin.
The police have suspected that one and the same person was behind the acts, which in one case were classified as aggravated arson and in the other cases vandalism. On Tuesday, it was announced that a minor has now been called in.
– The person is not of legal age and therefore social services are involved in this, says Magnus Jansson Klarin, who believes that a lot of work has been required to find the suspect.
– They have carried out very large investigative measures with technical investigations, heard a lot of witnesses on the spot and carried out door knocking.
According to the police, there have been about ten fires in Gränby recently, mostly garbage rooms and storage rooms, but also another apartment fire.
– Whether this person is suspected of all the fires is not yet clear, says Magnus Jansson Klarin.
