Norfolk OPP issue call reminder

How do you access police when you need assistance?

That depends on whether you need urgent or non-urgent help.

Calls for assistance continue to be left on voicemail after hours at the Norfolk Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, said a recent media release.

Calls to the detachment are answered by administrative staff Monday to Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm

Messages left after hours “often causes undo delay in responding to calls for service outside of normal office hours,” said the release.

Those making urgent calls requiring immediate police attention are to dial 9-1-1.

People with a non-urgent issue requiring them to speak with a police officer are to dial the toll-free number at 1-888-310-1122. The callers will be connected with a dispatcher who will direct the caller to an officer on duty.

“The OPP encourage every Norfolk County resident to contact 1-888-310-1122 if they would like to speak to an officer or require police assistance for a non-urgent matter. The use of 9-1-1 should always be used for immediate police assistance emergencies,” said Inspector Jodi Kays, Detachment Commander of Norfolk County PPO.

As well, a phone is located at the front of every OPP detachment, which will immediately connect you to an OPP Communications Center.
