Consumes 40 million liters of diesel – now they are changing

LKAB will go from consuming 40 million liters of diesel annually to running entirely on electricity.

In the pursuit of reduced emissions and cut fuel costs, a 42-tonne heavy battery truck is currently being tested in the mine in Kiruna.

– The working environment will be much better, we have ventilation, but we are in cramped spaces, so it will be bad. So there will be a positive impact on the working environment for those who drive, says Rebecca Smedqvist, production manager at LKAB Berg och betong.

So far, it is only driven above ground, the battery truck in the Kiruna mine, but after the summer it is planned that all safety tests will be completed and it will become Sweden’s first battery-powered mine truck underground.
