When the war in Ukraine broke out, Putin adviser Anatoly Tyubays resigned.
Now he is seriously ill with an unusual nerve disease and is receiving intensive care.
– We wish him a speedy recovery, says Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov according to the state-run Russian news agency Paw.
It was during Sunday that Anatolij Tyubajs had to be taken to a hospital in a Western European country. The condition was critical and according to his wife, his hand and leg had gone numb, reports The New York Times.
The condition turned out to be Guillain-Barré syndrome, a very rare disease in which the immune system attacks the body’s nervous system.
He has been close to Russian President Vladimir Putin since the 1990s and is one of the highest-ranking figures in the Kremlin to resign since the invasion of Ukraine. He has also been Deputy Prime Minister to former Russian leader Boris Yeltsin.
He was Putin’s international climate envoy when he resigned in March, for no real reason. However, it is said to be due to his opposition to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Not the first time
It is currently unclear what happened to the former Kremlin high official, but the incident has been linked to other Putin opponents who have died or become seriously ill from poison. Perhaps the most famous is the now imprisoned opposition politician Alexei Navalny.
Dmitry Peskov believes that the news about Anatoly Tyubai’s illness is sad and wishes him to get well again soon, according to Tass.
– He is a Russian citizen and we try to help all Russian citizens as best we can, says Dmitry Peskov, according to the Russian news agency.
