INTERVENED WHILE TRYING TO CROSS THE SECOND BARRIERS IN THE GREEN ZONE
Violence continues in Baghdad, which started when Shiite leader Muqtada Sadr supporters broke through the concrete barriers and entered the Green Zone, where government buildings and foreign mission representations are located. While the supporters of the Sadr Group continued to occupy the parliament building, the Coordination Group, which gathered under the umbrella of all Shiite parties except the Sadr Group, called for protests to its supporters yesterday.
Supporters of the Coordination Commission for Supporting Legitimacy and Protecting State Institutions, affiliated to the Coordination Group, gathered near the suspension bridge in Baghdad at 17.00 local time and marched to the Green Zone. The crowded group broke through the first of the concrete barriers set up by the security forces in the Green Zone, where they came by chanting slogans against Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi. Security forces intervened with water cannons after the protesters tried to cross the second barrier in the Green Zone. It was reported that there were injuries in the incidents.
The leader of the Shiite militia Asayib Ehlilhak Movement, Kays Hazali, called out to the protesters and asked them to withdraw from the area. After Hazali’s message, Shiite protesters began to withdraw from the Green Zone.
