It was the first death recorded in Asia, with the first death of a person from the monkeypox virus in India.

Kerala State Health Minister Veena George announced at a press conference that monkeypox virus was detected in a 22-year-old man while he was in the United Arab Emirates on July 19.

George said that this person arrived in the state of Kerala on July 21, without informing the authorities about his illness.

Stating that the person in question went to the hospital on July 27 with complaints of high fever and swelling of the lymph nodes, George said that the young man did not have a rash on his body, so doctors did not suspect monkeypox.

Stating that the patient’s condition worsened, he was put on a ventilator, and the young man’s family told the authorities on 30 July that their child had been diagnosed with monkeypox virus, George stated that the patient died on the same day.

Kerala Health Minister George stated that with the death of this person, the first death from the monkeypox virus in the country was recorded.

Stating that the monkeypox virus was also found in the samples taken from the young person after his death, George said that 20 people who were in contact with the young person were isolated.

George stated that on July 14, the person with whom the virus was first detected in the country regained his health.

This death was the first in Asia and the fourth outside of Africa due to the monkeypox virus.

So far, 4 cases of monkeypox have been detected in India, three of them in Kerala.

SECOND DEATH IN SPAIN

In a statement made by the Spanish Ministry of Health, it was reported that a man died on July 30 due to the monkeypox virus.

In the statement, it was stated that this death was the second death in the country and in Europe due to the monkeypox virus.

With the death of the person in question, the third death was recorded outside of Africa.

In Spain, where the highest case of monkeypox was detected in the world, a person died for the first time on July 29 due to the virus, this was the first death in Europe and the second death outside of Africa.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the monkeypox epidemic, which continues to spread throughout the world, especially in Europe, as an International Public Health Emergency (PHEIC) on 23 July.

In the statement made by WHO on 27 July, it was reported that more than 18 thousand cases from 78 countries were confirmed, 70 percent of the cases were seen in the European region and 25 percent in the Americas region. (AA)
