At least 69 people have been killed in floods and landslides in Iran, the country’s emergency management agency said. About 45 people are still missing.

Over 20 provinces in the country have been affected by the heavy downpours in recent weeks, according to the state news agency Fars. Several airports and main roads are closed and thousands of people have been evacuated, reports CNN. At least 20,000 homes have been damaged by the water masses.

The country’s weather service warns that the heavy rain will continue in several provinces.

For years, Iran has been severely affected by drought, but also by recurring floods after heavy downpours.
