A man and a woman ended up in the sea in connection with a boat accident outside Ystad on Sunday afternoon. One of them alerted sos himself with a mobile phone.
– We understood it to mean that they had somehow been out with a craft and ended up in the water, says Joanna Paraïso, who is the rescue leader at the Swedish Maritime Administration’s maritime and air traffic control centre.
The alarm call came at 3:45 p.m. and then a major rescue operation was launched with the Sea Rescue Society, the rescue service and a Danish helicopter. The crew of the Bornholm ferry was also involved in the search.
– They start looking in that area for this person, who we hear very poorly via sos, sees the ferry.
Those in distress were found about half an hour after the alarm came, says Paraïso. The extent of the damage is unclear.
– They are picked up, taken ashore and handed over to an ambulance.
