The MonsterVerse series is designed to fill the screens with heart-pounding spectacle in the most effective way possible. The main characters are the giant ape Kong, Godzilla and their changing opponents. Most recently, the two rivals even fought each other in Godzilla vs. Kong. Kong: Skull Island is on TV today. We look to the future of the visually stunning franchise that has a lot in store for us.
Rushing action on TV: That’s what Kong: Skull Island is all about

The film takes place during the last years of the Vietnam War. A troop of soldiers, a journalist and various researchers receive one unusual order. Tucked away off the coast of Sumatra is a perpetually foggy island aptly named Skull Island. It seems to lie outside of time and is inhabited by oversized creatures that defy description. The expedition (led by Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson) makes their way to the cursed place. But what she finds there is beyond imagination.
Skull Island is the second film in the Monsterverse that started with Godzilla in 2014, it tells the prehistory of the giant ape and is a kind of warm-up round for the main fight. But that doesn’t mean that Skull Island would exercise restraint. Action and characters are merely accessories for powerful, screen-busting action set pieces.
A Netflix series connects directly to Skull Island
With the series Skull Island Netflix opens a new chapter of the Monsterverse. Based on Kong: Skull Island, the series follows a group of people stranded on an island infested with prehistoric monsters. Nothing is known about the plot yet, but Skull Island is said to be anime-style. The series may yet start 2022 at Netflix.
Godzilla vs. Kong 2: A new movie and live series are coming
It wasn’t that far. The monster clash also continues in the cinema. The big sequel Godzilla vs. Kong 2 (not yet the official title) is supposed to be on March 15, 2024 start in cinemas. Filming has just started. New veteran director Adam Wingard is also directing the next movie in the Monsterverse, which will be a direct sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong. The human lead in Godzilla vs Kong 2 takes over Dan Stevens, who replaces Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, among others.
The is more advanced first live series from the MonsterVerse, which will be coming to Apple TV+. In it, Godzilla’s battle against the Titans has destroyed parts of San Francisco and revealed the existence of monsters. Now we follow the story of a family that comes into contact with the secret organization Monarch. The start date is the year 2023 in conversation.
