Six people have been injured in an attack on the Russian Black Sea Fleet headquarters in Sevastopol on the Crimean Peninsula, according to the Russian-controlled city’s mayor, Michail Razvozjayev.

The explosion prompted all festivities planned for Sunday’s Russian Navy Day to be “cancelled for security reasons” and residents urged to stay indoors if possible.

The day is celebrated in several places in Russia, including in St. Petersburg where President Vladimir Putin will be present.

According to the navy’s assessment, the drone was homemade.

The details of the attack have not been commented on by Ukraine, nor have they been independently confirmed. The parties’ accounts of how the war is going are consistently difficult to verify.

If the information about Sunday’s attack is correct, it is the first time that Ukraine has attacked the peninsula, Christo Grozev, a journalist at Bellingcat newspaper, said on Twitter.
