The war in Ukraine continues with no end in sight and now many refugees are expected to remain in Sweden longer than previously thought.
This means rising social costs. In a new forecast, the Migration Agency estimates that the reception will cost Sweden another seven and a half billion kroner.
“So I’ll stay here”
Vira Menzhynska works as a cleaner at Skansen in Stockholm. She is one of 43,000 Ukrainians who have come to Sweden as refugees since February 24.
– It is not safe in Ukraine, neither for me nor my child. Now I don’t have a job in Ukraine either, so I stay here, she says.
