[Mis à jour le 29 juillet 2022 à 20h30] Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez has established itself since the 1960s as a cult French comedy. Did you know that the film was originally born of a real theft? Indeed, director and screenwriter Richard Balducci was in Saint-Tropez in 1964 when his camera was stolen from his car. He decides to lodge a complaint with the gendarmerie and will be very surprised at the welcome he receives! First, the sergeant is surprised that we lodge a complaint during lunchtime, before having that they know the thief but that they cannot act immediately.
This experience will deeply surprise Richard Balducci, who promises to make this lazy policeman famous in a film. He talks about his experience with director Jean Girault. The latter appreciates the idea and decides to start working on a gendarmerie brigade I don’t care about Saint-Tropez, with Louis de Funes at the casting. The latter will also have the idea of the opposition between the two gendarmes with clear-cut characters. The rest is history.
Synopsis – Recently promoted to sergeant, Constable Cruchot leaves a Provençal village to join his new post: Saint-Tropez. His only daughter, the charming Nicole, gladly follows her father to his new residence and does not take long to want to mingle with the group of young summer visitors ready to do the four hundred blows.
