From September 1, it will be forbidden to drive electric scooters on footpaths and pavements. According to infrastructure minister Tomas Eneroth, this is yet another measure to deal with the mess that the e-scooters create in traffic.
– The important thing is that we now have the same rules and laws for e-scooters as for bicycles, Enerot said at a press conference on Thursday.
However, the announcement is criticized by the industry as it believes that the new law may worsen traffic safety.
– We see that 95 percent of all accidents happen on the road, while only five percent happen on footpaths, so we are worried about traffic safety, says Christina Moe Gjerde, Nordic manager at Voi.
