And in a year’s time, the football World Cup awaits – then Fifa will make a demand for VAR.

Something that has been hotly debated throughout the EC championship is the VAR decisions, and Uefa has withstood harsh criticism. Several situations, which could have been completely match-deciding, have been thoroughly questioned.
The new requirement from Fifa
Ahead of the semi-final against England, Kosovare Asllani directed great criticism at the championship when it emerged that there were only 15 cameras in the arena, compared to a men’s championship where the requirement is 36. It is something that SVT’s expert Jonas Eriksson agrees with, and believes that the cameras were far too few and the angles too bad.
For the next major championship on the women’s side, the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next summer, Fifa has come up with a new requirement for VAR. During the World Cup, all video assistant referees must be women.
It is a requirement that the former judge Jonas Eriksson appreciates, but believes that there is a major problem.
“Must happen over time”
– A great idea, of course, but how do you give them the conditions to train? There are no leagues or matches that provide that opportunity. It will be incredibly tough and difficult, says Jonas Eriksson in SVT and continues:
– I think it is obvious to bring in women who judge, it is very important. But to go to 100 percent to do it in a year, when today it is zero percent. The best thing would be to exchange skills from men over a longer period of time.
Nilla Fischer, who turned down this summer’s EC playoffs, also reacts to Fifa’s demands.
– It must take place over time with a planned time frame. So it will be good for the referees – but also for the players and for football, she says.
