According to Chip Ganassi Racing, last year’s winner in Indycar Alex Palou has a contract through 2023.
On July 12, Chip Ganassi Racing released the news that they had exercised a one-year extension option with the Spaniard.
Palou immediately responded by denying it via Twitter and announced that he has no intention of returning to the stable next season.
Shortly afterwards, Formula 1 team McLaren’s CEO Zak Brown announced that they had signed the driver – something that has now resulted in a lawsuit from Chip Ganassi Racing.
“Álex Palou is under contract with us beyond 2023. A rival team has tried to sign him without regard to that contract and therefore we will take legal action,” the team announced in a statement.
Palou is currently sixth in the Indycar championship, 44 points behind leading team-mate and Swede Marcus Ericsson.
