Every year, EA Sports adjusts the ratings of football stars based on their performances over the past season. We look at the pros who played poorly and are therefore in FIFA 23 face downgrades in their stats.
The official ratings of FIFA 23 cards are not yet known. But we can already look at the statistics of the football stars who were not able to pull off top performances in the past season and speculate how strong the inevitable downgrades will be.
Here you will find everything about the release of FIFA 23.
Lionel Messi
Lionel Messi’s absolute heyday seems to be coming to an end – after all, the football legend is already 35 years old. In any case, after moving to Paris Saint-Germain, the Argentinian was unable to match his performances at FC Barcelona and only managed 11 goals and 15 assists in 34 games.
That’s still not lousy performance, so the downgrade shouldn’t be that dramatic. However, an upgrade or even staying on the current rating would be a very big surprise, which is why a new rating of 91 or 90 sounds realistic.
neymar
Neymar is an undisputed super talent. But his performances and goal tally in Paris are getting worse every year. The Brazilian scored 13 goals in 28 games last season. Not a catastrophic performance, but simply not enough for such a superstar.
So it might be hard to keep a 90 rating. A new total value of 89 would be more realistic here.
Luis Suárez
Last year Suarez was upgraded from 87 to 88. But that could change for FIFA 23, because last season the Uruguayan striker managed a relatively weak 11 goals and 3 assists in 44 games. A quota for which Suarez will probably have to take a decent downgrade.
We expect a new rating of 85.
Jadon Sancho
The former Dortmund player joined Manchester United at the start of last season and started with a very strong 87 rating. Unfortunately, the 22-year-old winger failed to impress in his first Premier League season. In 38 games, Sancho only managed 5 goals and 3 assists. Far too little for a player who cost 85 million euros.
In FIFA 23 his rating should definitely be lowered. An 85 would be plausible here, because Sancho is still young and can quickly find his way back to his old strength.
Sergei Ramos
Just like Messi, Sergio Ramos joined PSG at the beginning of last season. But injuries threw the 36-year-old centre-back back, which is why he was hardly able to collect playing time. The games he made were solid, but don’t warrant an upgrade or staying on his very strong 88 rating.
It would be more realistic if EA gave the Spaniard a new rating of 85.
Eden Hazard
Eden Hazard already had to accept a dramatic downgrade from 88 to 85 in FIFA 22. Unfortunately, that’s the way it seems to continue as the Belgian simply fails to make it through at Real Madrid and become an important part of the team. The winger was only able to record 1 goal and 3 assists in the 2021/22 season.
Far too little for a player who joined Los Blancos in 2019 for an unbelievable 115 million euros. At that time, the Belgian still had a rating of 91 and was the cover star of FIFA 20.
Unfortunately, those times are over now and the 31-year-old is threatened with a downgrade to 82.
Harry Maguire
Harry Maguire didn’t have a strong season at Manchester United at all and caught a lot of mistakes that led to numerous goals conceded. A development that has been going on for a long time and could bring the English international a big downgrade.
He probably shouldn’t drop below 80 and get a new rating of 81 or 82.
What about Cristiano Ronaldo? The Portuguese played a somewhat mixed return season at Manchester United, but was able to convince with 24 goals and 3 assists in 38 games. So it could well be possible that the 37-year-old can keep his strong 91 rating or be downgraded to a maximum of 90.
What do you say about the possible downgrades? Can you think of superstars who could also get worse ratings? Feel free to tell us in the comments!
