The first half of 2022 for the automotive industry has emerged

The first six-month data shared by the Automotive Industry Association shows the increase in general, while the decline in the automobile sector.

Automotive Industry Associationannounced the production and export numbers and market data for the January-June period. In today’s dynamics, where production problems are frequently on the agenda, we see that the automotive market increased by 2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 649 thousand 311 units. Although there is an increase in terms of roof, we see a figure of 382 thousand 947 units with an 8 percent decline on the automobile production side of the process. Considering the averages of the last 10 years, it is seen that the total market increased by 3 percent and the automobile market by 4 percent in the January-June 2022 period. While the heavy commercial vehicle market increased by 10 percent, the light commercial vehicle market was at the same level as last year. In this period, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 39 percent, while the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 59 percent.

Commercial vehicles continue to lead the automotive industry

Commercial vehicle production in Turkey in the January-June period increased by 19 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In this period, while production in the heavy commercial vehicle group increased by 26 percent, the production in the light commercial vehicle group increased by 18 percent. In the first half of the year, we see that while the total commercial vehicle production increased by 19 percent, it was realized as 266 thousand 364 units. Despite the increase in the heavy commercial vehicle group compared to the previous year, when the base effect is taken into account, the truck market shrank by 30 percent and the bus and midibus market by 53 percent compared to 2015.

In the first six months of the year, automotive exports increased by 1.2 percent on a unit basis compared to the same period of the previous year, and amounted to 466 thousand 995 units. Automobile exports decreased by 9 percent to 271 thousand 54 units. In the same period, tractor exports increased by 13 percent and were recorded as 8 thousand 906 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), automotive industry exports ranked second in the sectoral export ranking with a 12.1 percent share in total exports in the January-June period.
