A forest fire has broken out in Boxholm in Östergötland. The emergency services are on site and fighting the fire during the morning.
– We received help from Tranås, who came by boat. The easiest way has been to attack the fire from the lake because it is a bit mountainous and bad terrain, says Niklas Nyrén, operator at the Rescue Service in Östra Götaland.
The rescue service has requested helicopters from the Swedish Public Safety Authority (MSB) to facilitate the extinguishing, and expects to work on site throughout the morning and later let landowners monitor the area.
The alarm about the fire came at 04.47 on Monday morning from a private person. During the morning, it was difficult to estimate the extent of the burning area.
There is a cottage area nearby, but there is no risk of spreading there, according to Niklas Nyrén.
– They will probably smell a little smoke during the morning, he says.
