After the coronavirus pandemic, the Monkeypox virus is on the world agenda. An emergency declaration came from the World Health Organization regarding the virus, which first appeared in Africa. Although the symptoms of the disease include various symptoms such as fever and swelling of the lymph nodes, it is known that the definitive and correct diagnosis is made in health institutions. So what are the symptoms of Monkeypox virus, does it kill?
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF MONKELOOM VIRUS?
The symptoms of monkeypox virus disease are curious. The incubation period of the disease, that is, the time from risky contact to the onset of symptoms, varies around 6-14 days. However, this period may vary between 5-21 days. People with an animal bite or scratch may have a shorter incubation period than those who contract the disease through touch or contact.
The symptoms of the virus can be listed as follows:
-Fire,
-Back pain,
-Muscle pains,
-Intense headache,
-Lymphadenopathy (swelling of the lymph nodes),
The invasion period, which is characterized by severe fatigue, also lasts around 0-5 days.
Lymphadenopathy is a distinguishing feature of this virus when compared to other diseases (smallpox, chickenpox, measles) that may appear similar at the onset of the disease.
Skin rash is also among the symptoms of the disease and usually begins 1-3 days after the fever appears. The rash tends to be concentrated on the face and extremities rather than the trunk. Depending on the extent of the disease, the rash can be seen in different regions.
HOW IS MONKEY FLOWER DIAGNOSED?
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is the preferred laboratory test in the diagnosis of the disease, considering its accuracy and sensitivity. A biopsy is also an option when possible.
IS THERE A TREATMENT FOR THE MONKLE POISON VIRUS?
It is stated that some developed antivirals (tecovirimat, brincidofovir, cidofovir) may be effective in monkeypox, although it is not certain. Clinical care and supportive treatment should be given for monkeypox to relieve symptoms, manage complications, and prevent long-term sequelae. Secondary bacterial infections should be treated appropriately and specific to the causative agent.
IS THERE A VACCINE FOR THE MONKLE POISON VIRUS?
According to the information in the Ministry’s sources, several observational studies have proven that vaccination against smallpox is approximately 85% effective in preventing monkeypox. Therefore, those who have been vaccinated against smallpox can have a milder illness or be protected from the disease. Today, smallpox vaccines are no longer available for clinical use.
