Verschoor started in the main race from eleventh place. He quickly managed to get to ninth position. In the final phase, when Verschoor was in eighth place, he announced via the on-board radio that his car was on fire. He then had to leave his smoking car. The race was won by the Japanese Ayumu Iwasa.
