Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard won the 109th men’s Tour de France. Jasper Philipsen was the fastest in the final stage.
The men’s Tour of France ended on Sunday in Paris with the 21st stage on the legendary Champs-Elysees.
The strongest rider of the 116-kilometer long flat stage was from Belgium Jasper Philipsen. A stage win in Paris is highly valued, as some people even use the unofficial term “Criminal World Championship”.
– A childhood dream comes true. I’m proud of the whole team as we got the cherry on the cake at the end of the Tour, Philipsen said in a GCN TV interview.
Cycling is a team sport
Last year, Jumbo-Visman triumphed on the main street of Paris Wout van Aertwho won the points race for the riders at the Tour and the award for the most enterprising cyclist, but did not participate in the final race on Sunday.
He protected the winner of the joint competition, Denmark, all the way to the finish line Jonas Vingegaard. The entire Jumbo-Visma team proved to be an overwhelming obstacle for the others in the 109th Tour de France.
Tadej Pogacar The UAE team had won the previous two tours without world-class co-drivers, and it was not thought beforehand that anyone would have been able to challenge him.
However, Vingegaard won and quite overwhelmingly – the difference was two minutes and 43 seconds. It was almost a minute more before Sunday, when the Dane and his team intentionally finished later.
– I finally won the Tour, nothing can go wrong anymore. No one can take this away from me, Vingegaard rejoiced.
The Tour was practically decided already on the 11th stage, when Pogacar collapsed almost three minutes behind.
Keeping the yellow jersey with the team is not simple, even though Vingegaard was in top form, and it was helped by one of the teams of all time.
The Belgian Van Aert won three stages and was able to be of help practically on all terrains. Besides him Sepp Kuss was in the center in the final moments, when the American hung on Pogacar’s attacks.
– It’s nice to celebrate with everyone. The most important thing for me is to see the support and maintenance team and hear their knowledge, Kuss said about the importance of the entire team.
The third major tour of the cycling season, La Vuelta, will be run mainly in Spain from August 19.
