After Destiny 2 announced the last two expansions, the end of its great light and darkness saga was predetermined. The current DLC “The Witch Queen” offered a flashback story and the upcoming DLC ”Lightfall” should be the beginning of the end. So it’s time to talk about some unsolved mysteries.
What is Destiny 2 preparing right now? Everything is currently about the approaching end in the space shooter, because Bungie has already decided the dramatic finale of its light and darkness saga. With the current DLC “The Witch Queen” you send the guardians on a last journey for the time being, so that they can find out what the great mystery of the ominous traveler and the darkness is.
Even if Destiny 2 itself is not over, it still means the end of a very long and grandiose shooter saga that has accompanied and shaped many guardians for years.
Today we bring you up to date on the unsolved mysteries so that you are definitely prepared for what is to come.
Secret #1: Light and Darkness
For as long as Destiny has existed, Guardians have accompanied the struggle between the light and the dark. Without him, the Light-filled Keepers might never have existed, and mankind might never have known the Traveler who still protects them.
But what these powers, light and darkness, are exactly and what secret motivations their actions have, nobody knows even after 8 years of Destiny, except Bungie of course.
To date, the Guardians have only ever received fragmentary insights into this symbiosis of the two powers.
While the light remains adamantly silent, the darkness often takes the opportunity to reveal a few secrets.
Even the first hints of the Light’s existence also only come from a collection of Hive texts called “Books of Sorrows”, which already described the creation of the Hive by the Darkness before the Witch Queen DLC.

All just one-sided propaganda of darkness: At the moment, you really only know one side of the coin, namely that of darkness. The traveler remains staunchly silent and still keeps his riddles to himself.
It seems at least true, however, as lore has it that the saga is about light and dark, about the “endgame” of existence. Everything has emanated from these forces, and the chief intelligences of these forces, as far as we know, are the deities of existence.
Both light and darkness existed before the universe or time existed, and therefore both have “no beginning”. Instead, they were born out of mathematical structures that then shaped reality. Both the Dark and the Light merely “play” with this reality to form and influence evolving, complex patterns. Basically, Destiny 2’s Guardians are dealing with beings that are larger than the universe, or maybe even the reason why the universe exists in the first place.
If you think about it for a longer time, you will quickly realize that this story not only sounds complex. It contains real science, playing with both entropy and fictional forces such as “paracausality”. A term that only exists in Destiny, by the way.
Exactly this incomprehensible game with the cosmos also brings us straight to secret number 2.
Secret #2: Destiny is a cosmic game with flowers
It is currently widely believed that the game played by light and darkness in Destiny 2 is the universe. The original rules are the laws of physics and the new rules are just the mentioned paracausality in the Destiny universe.
You are playing a game within the game: This “game within a game” began before time existed. It is played by two unimaginably powerful beings, the light and the dark, in a garden. One player is “the gardener” who arguably represents the traveller, and the other player is “the winnower” who arguably represents the darkness. Even now, Destiny 2 players find themselves in the midst of this secret “flower game.” But many Guardians don’t even know it exists.
What is the flower game? The name “Flower Game” sounds simple. However, this is a complex game that creates viable universes.
The game is undecidable. Because no one can predict exactly how it will turn out except by playing it. This statement also applies to Destiny 2 players.
Destiny 2 finally reveals the biggest enemy with Witch Queen – but what does he want?
However, playing with the cosmos has a problem: While any number of universes are simulated in the patterns of the flower game, inevitably the same thing always happens. A “final form” (the “final form”) repeats itself endlessly and gradually dominates all other patterns. The witness always admired this dominant pattern. It frustrated the traveler.
As the lore relates, at some point the traveler became so angry about this that he decided to do something about it. The nature of this final form must be prevented, otherwise it limits all other possibilities. To achieve this, the traveler made himself a rule within the flower game. The witness, his greatest enemy, was not at all enthusiastic about this rule change and was even angry to the point of panic about this project. So he warned the traveler then. All the light would do with this new rule is delay the dominant pattern. It would come anyway, because it’s inevitable. Since then, the witness has done everything to stop the traveler’s actions or to change them in his own favour.
However, this game also has secret players, such as the witch queen Savathun or the ominous entity.
Mystery #3: The Ominous Entity
The term “entity” is sometimes used in Destiny 2. The pyramids themselves or the “fleet of darkness” could even serve this one higher power. Because the light and the dark are not actually opponents, but only cosmic, paracausal abilities.
What actually created light and darkness? Some story details indicate that neither light nor darkness are omniscient and that there may actually be something greater behind them. Perhaps what was referred to as the “Final Form” in the last previously announced Destiny 2 expansion.
It is therefore not at all improbable that an entity or “The Final Form” has always ensured that the flower game ends at some point and thus also the struggle of the opposing, cosmic abilities is ended.
This is also supported by the fact that the Darkness claims to have existed before time. Thus, the witness could be just an emissary to influence individuals and civilizations with their help.
So if the witness is just a “child of the gods” formed of many speaking through him with one voice, then the traveler could be too. Therefore, it is currently still a secret whether the witness is this entity or whether Bungie may have hidden something else in the Destiny cosmos that will be revealed soon. Maybe on August 23, 2022.
The way to the end is not far: After all, the Guardians are now on the verge of solving these three mysteries. The saga of light and darkness will reach a dramatic climax in Destiny 2 with “Final Form”, because Bungie “does not want to tell a story forever”.
But don’t be fooled. Destiny itself will continue after that. But that will be another story, with more mysteries.
